Hi Joël,
are you using OpacSuppression (system preference) or OpacHiddenItems by
chance? Especially OpacHiddenItems can create 'holes' in your result
lists which might be an explanation why the staff interface displays the
results differently.

The term doesn't matter, sometime the results will be displayed,
sometime it says no results.
