Thank you for this hint. It turns out that in the default bibliographic framework in our installation (upgraded to 19.05.04), the 952$1 field (lost status) is hidden. The manual warns against trying to edit the default framework, so I won't change this setting. Unfortunately, when I imported our catalog from Mandarin back in 2017, I wasn't aware of this issue and all of those items seem to be using the default framework.
