We are thinking about using the Cart functionality as part of a 72 hour quarantine. The Cart functionality only works with the shelving location. Whether or not an item can be issued etc., is defined in the circ rules and is based on the combination of library, patron category and item type and so we expect that our Lapsafe laptop loan units will simply ignore the idea of the quarantine as Koha will flag up the circulation action as permitted. So a returned laptop could be issued to another reader (assuming the battery has recharged) well before the quarantine period has expired. We have discussed this with our laptop loans unit vendor, and they are preparing a software modification so that items sitting at the "Cart" shelving location will not loan. Koha libraries with laptop loan units and similar kit may need to consider this issue. Ray Delahunty University of the Arts London
