All my suggestions were based on MARC21, and the fields you mention are not MARC21, so please disregard my suggestions! But do, please, feel free to come to our CatSIG—there are people who attend who work in library consortia with international libraries, and I know they're more familiar with UNIMARC than I am! And some things are format-independent, e.g.: Regarding frameworks, I usually advise starting to troubleshoot one framework, for a book. Once that one is working with very basic fields for a book, one can use it as a basis for other frameworks if desired. (E.g., a serial is like a book record with fields added for title change(s), frequency, etc.) (And a thesis record is like a book record with added thesis note fields.) The simplest book to catalog first is usually well-known fiction--I would start there.
