Americans safer, the death toll of U.S. soldiers in
Iraq topped 1,000.

Democratic candidate John Kerry called it a �tragic
milestone.� Bush
ignored the number, insisting, �Our strategy is
succeeding.�

Labor Day rally jams W.Va. country roads
