Ansar Burney appealed with Saudi King to release Indian National:


The Pakistan�s renowned human and civil rights organization Ansar Burney 
Welfare Trust International and Prisoners Aid Society 
http://www.ansarburney.org has strongly condemned the illegal sentence of 
Jail with 300 lashes to an innocent Indian prisoner in Saudi Arabia and 
demanded for his immediate release.

In a most urgent appeal with the Saudi Arabian King, head of the Trust Ansar 
Burney, Advocate demanded for the release of Indian citizen Brian O�Connor, 
who was arrested in Saudia in March this year and sentenced for Jail with 
300 lashes on a crime he never committed.

Ansar Burney said that the Saudi Arabian court on 20th October 2004 
sentenced Indian National, Brian O'Connor to 10 months with 300 lashes, 
accusing him of "spreading Christianity".

Mr Burney said that the Muttawa (Saudi religious police), first arrested 
O�Connor on March 25, 2004. Police reportedly tortured the young Indian 
during his captivity. After enduring months in a Saudi prison, O'Connor was 
taken to court in late September 2004 for a brief, 90-minute hearing; 
Charges were reportedly brought against him for spreading Christianity. 
Officers of his employers have declared that the allegations against their 
employee are not valid, though it is accepted that O�Connor is a practicing 
Christian.

Ansar Burney appealed with the Saudi Arabian King to generously give 
clemency to O�Connor, and ask his government to release this Indian citizen 
who has already suffered much.

He also demanded with the Indian government to take up the case of Indian 
National with the Saudi government.
