Defend Academic Freedom at Columbia University Support Professors Critical of Israel ************************************************ Press Conference & Speak Out Tuesday 12 pm In recent weeks, professors in the Middle East and Asian Languages and Cultures and others who are critical of Israel and the US have been targeted by a politically motivated intimidation campaign. Although the students behind Columbia Unbecoming claim that their film documents harassment on campus, the reality is that this attack on professors is part of a larger campaign aimed at silencing dissent on campuses nationwide. Instead of standing up for academic freedom, President Bollinger has contributed to the witch-hunt atmosphere by launching a politically motivated investigation into MEALAC. The New York City Council has warned that if University President Bollinger's investigation "comes up dry" they will launch their own investigation. At a time when Arabs, Muslims and South Asians are still being deported, detained and harassed, it is more important than ever that we respond. Come to a press conference and speak out this Tuesday to defend the professors who are under attack and assert the right to express dissenting opinions, especially during wartime.
