You Have Captured Our City, But You Will Never Win Our Hearts and Minds!

The people of Fallujah defied the US-UK gang rape of Iraq and for over a year
they refused to be conquered. Last April they stared down the occupying army,
held up under continuous bombing and refused to hand over their resistance
fighters. In June, they rejected the puppet government and became a symbol of
resistance for Iraq and the whole world. In November, US imperialists selected
Bush to carry out his global war plan including a horrific massacre in
Fallujah, a disgusting coronation of their blood-soaked arrogant champion. Now
the occupiers have announced a list of 21 other cities that face similar
assault if they do not capitulate. US rulers have brought down the hammer and
beyond that are setting the terms for the next generation.
Fallujah was once home to 300 000 people, an industrial center which sat along
the busy motorway that connected central Iraq to the outside world. But now the
city lies empty and broken, a ghost town. Inside Fallujah many are dead. No one
knows how many of them now lie dead on the streets or underneath the heavy
concrete rubble of their homes. A two year old Fallujan in a hospital bed with
one of his tiny legs blown off; a dead child lying in the street clutching the
headless body of an adult; an emergency health clinic blasted to rubble; and
desperate dogs and cats feeding on corpses in the street are tokens of US
�democracy� for the Iraqi people and the people of the world.
US imperialists and their puppet government headed by Allawi are no longer
bothering to conceal attacks on civilian targets and are openly eliminating
anyone who dares to count bodies. Bush appointed Alberto Gonzales as the US
attorney general. Gonzales is in favour of torture and believes the Geneva
Conventions are obsolete. So there will be many more Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib
torture chambers and cold-blooded genocide like in Fallujah.
The real story of US war against the people of Fallujah is coming through in
the difficult personal stories of survivors and outside observers. US army ran
out the population of hundreds of thousands; flattened their homes and city;
destroyed its infrastructure; killed unknown numbers of people; ruined hundreds
of historic mosques; cut off water, food, medicine and electricity; shot
anything that moved in the darkness; executed everyone trying to cross the
river by boat or swimming; separated men from women and forced all men between
15 and 55 to return into the battle zone; executed wounded captives; used infra
red �thermal sights� to detect people inside buildings to be targeted and
killed; seized the only General Hospital before the assault; arrested doctors
who tried to help injured patients; forced injured patients from their beds
against the walls; interrogated severed injured patients at gunpoint; and
suppressed any news of civilian casualties. Are these war crimes or to
�bring freedom�?
The attack on Fallujah was not about freeing the people. It was deliberately
launched to punish and crush the people of this city. The US-UK rulers wanted
to make Fallujah into an example. They wanted to terrorize people across Iraq
and weaken their will to resist the long-term domination of their country by US
imperialism. These international criminals intend to crush any resistance, kill
any opponents they can reach. They intend to use the horrifying example of
Fallujah to terrorize the people throughout Iraq and on that basis hold
election at gunpoint in January, if they can. In these occupation elections,
people will be ordered to elect various pro US collaborators. In fact, it is a
rubber stamp for US domination and has nothing to do with the will or interests
of the Iraqi people. The battle of Fallujah may generally be over for the time
being, but there is a war between the occupiers and millions of Iraqi people
united with tens of millions around the world who will not accept
aggression and occupation.
