The Swedish Parliament has decided that Swedish defence in future is to be network-based. FMV (the Defence Materiel Aadministration), the Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) have been carrying out studies on network-based defence for a number of years. The next phase is now being initiated with the implementation of two demonstrators in 2005 and 2006. The demonstrators are intended to make it possible for experiments to be carried out and various possible solutions and limitations to be tested. The demonstrator activity is to focus on innovation. The technical implementation is referred to as the LedsystT Phase 2 project. FMV is responsible for providing the technical solutions required to prepare the demonstrators. FMV has drawn up an acquisition strategy for LedsystT Phase 2, with the aim of providing guidance for the various procurements and providing a basis for broadening the supplier structure. Many systems in the network-based defence system will be accomplished with civil solutions and civil technology. FMV foresees a need for suppliers in the following areas: independent consultancies to support the armed forces in the development of their activities; independent service companies to support FMV in integration, configuration management and the administration of systems for services and information; independent consultancy companies to support FMV in specification and procurement; independent service companies for validation and verification; design of service and information systems; activity services; system and product suppliers; operating and maintenance services. Other information: FMV herewith issues an invitation to attend information sessions on the forth coming procurements under LedsystT Phase 2 at the Ariadne Hotel in Stockholm. The information will be presented on two occasions, on 4 and 5 September, between 13.00 and 16.00. On 4 September the information will be presented in Swedish and on 5 September in English. FMV welcomes civilian, military, national and international companies to attend the information and to take part in the procurement process.
