FWIW, I can confirm this (comment #2 and comment #5) as well. Moving such a
contact to your list doesn't have any effect to their status nor does selecting
"Add to your Contact List" from the context menu.
Not a new problem either:
bug 71305 (wasn't fixed by the fixing of the bug it was duped against - bug
66259).
