SUSE had exactly this with a 10.0 alpha, we traced it to a GCC 4.0.2
optimisation bug.
There is a selfcontained testcase in comment #6 below. I would try this as
described in the comment and if it aborts, tell the kubuntu compiler maintainer
to patch their GCC - the bug is a stinker.
