------- Additional Comments From yojoe schneebrett com 2006-02-19 18:01 -------
I still think the best solution would be if Kopete recognizes splitted
encrypted incoming messages and put them together before displaying. AFAIK
kopete is the only IM client which has a GPG plugin. At least all my contacts,
I talk to encrypted, also use Kopete.

If there is no solution to this problem, then it should at least be possible to
tell Kopete to use encryption only for certain protocol-plugins. At the moment
you can only assign public-keys to Meta-Contacts. But if you have Meta-Contacts
with several IM-Sub-Contacts, then you always have to manually switch
encryption on and off for a Meta-Contact depending on which protocol you
currently use for a certain message.
Example: I write to a friend who is one single meta contact in my list, but has
a Jabber and ICQ sub-contact. I assigned his public gpp key to his meta
contact. When we chat using Jabber, encryption works fine. But if for some
reason his Jabber connection is dropped, then I automatically write to him
using ICQ. Now I have to be aware of writing to him via ICQ and have to disable
encryption manually. If I don't realize, that I'm using ICQ now to contact him,
he get's an encrypted message he can't decrypt (easily at least). This happens
quiet often and gets very annoying by and by.
When he's online with Jabber again, I have to enable encryption manually again.

Anyway, if encryption can't be used with all protocols anymore, the message
input area should indicate whether you are going to send an encrypted or
unencrypted message. Because, if you aren't aware that ICQ is used to send the
message and realize that it is not encrypted after you sent it, it is too late.

Well, I still hope, that encryption will work with all protocols again.
