------- Additional Comments From freebsd chillt de 2006-02-22 23:18 -------
Just adding another 2 cents... To me, it simply feels *wrong* to add this sort
of feature to Kopete. *NIX is a perfectly good multi-user system; applications
should be using the system's multi-user capabilities instead of rolling their
own. Imagine if every desktop app had multiple user profiles, all inside a
single *NIX account; what a mess. As was pointed out in a couple of comments,
there are ways to have multiple Kopete setups sharing one desktop if you desire
so. Adding all this complexity to Kopete will IMHO rather hurt the app because
it will be more code to maintain for very little benefit.

Now, a *guest* mode seems like a very good idea. It's a quick one-shot solution
for visitors who might only be using your Kopete once. I remember setting up
entire *NIX accounts just to run Kopete once for a friend; that definitely was
a bit of a heavyweight solution.

Finally, regarding comment #12 ("it'd also be nice if it was easier to switch
users in kde...") - the user switching in KDE is in the same spot as on Windows
XP (bottom of the start menu). It's also just as easy to use. And just like in
Windows XP, there is hot switching where you remain logged on and your apps
keep running in the background while another user is at the computer.
