this solves only the problem with lacking spaces. Still, the smileys are not
displayed in a consistant way:
* smileys in user list
* smileys in user info pop up if the smiley is in the name
* no smileys in user info pop up for away messages
* no smileys in user name in chat window
* not sure about user state change pop ups
