Normally, when a KDE app crashes, KDE's crash handler gets invoked and provides
you with a backtrace. If this does not happen for some reason, do the
following: Run kopete in gdb and when it has crashed, type "bt full". This
should give you a backtrace.
In the log posted in this report, there are several warning messages. A very
interesting one is "could not retrieve contact from contact list." Could it be
that the person sending you the file is not on your contact list - that it's a
temporary contact? Maybe this does not work properly?
