I have a similar problem with ICQ. But as for me, the outgoing messages are
also dislayed like this on the other side:

There is a way to avoid it.
Open a chat session, send some lines your contact. Close the chat session and
open a new one. Now the outgoing messages should be displayed correctly. But
still, it's annoying.
