I run a normal KDE 3.5.3, X-Org 7.0 system with a native NVidia driver (I use
the standard KDE window manager).
In addition to this I had the same problem with XGL (and Compiz as a window
manager).
The problems vanish when I switch off Compiz and remove this section from my
xorg.conf:
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection

I'm recompiling Kopete with debug informations enabled at the moment, I hope I
will get a few more answers this way.
