Great, I started this a couple of years ago when I first wrote KIMProxy, but 
never got the applet to a mature state.  The kuick konqueror plugin, and the 
kmail and kaddressbook integration, are the only KIMProxy clients apart from 
a couple of 3rd party karamba-type widgets.

This is the intention of splitting up Kopete into a backend and frontend using 
something like Decibel (Tapioca+Telepathy, sounds like a recipe for muddy 
though ;)

Decibel porting is on my TODO but I don't have a date for this.  This will 
turn the backend into a DBus service so applets, PIM, and every other apps 
can make use of it without a Kopete UI visible on the desktop.

It's great to have another developer interested in this area :).
