That's because it is in fact connecting, just that kopete does somehow not
"know" / show it. I captured the network traffic, and there is a successful
login going on, including buddy list transfer, away messages and incoming
messages. The same in version 0.12.3. So it seems both my assumptions were
wrong: It's neither a kopete version dependant nor a distribution (patch-)
dependant problem.
The fact that it works for some could be caused by an inconsistency in versions
of the server software on the AOL servers. But I'll stop making assumptions now
;)
