Summary: msn connection fail without notification if incorrect
                    proxy
           Product: kopete
           Version: 0.12.3
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR

Version: 0.12.3 (using KDE 3.5.5, Arch Linux)
Compiler: Target: i686-pc-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.18-ARCH

Ok, I try to describe the problem I found.

Today I used my notebook at school where we access the Internet throught a
local proxy on the school lan.
In order to use the Internet I set up correctly konqueror's proxy (manual
setting the proxy IP, port). I successfully used konqueror to browse the web.

However when I get back home I forget to remove the proxy setting from
konqueror. Obviously the proxy were not available from my home lan.

I then started kopete. Gtalk, I don't know why, worked, while MSN did not. The
MSN icon simply flipped but after some seconds returned gray again.

I then started analysing the problem. I understood that I left the proxy
setting in konqueror. I set again on "direct connection to the Internet" then
kopete started working again.

Now I guess that kopete MSN were aware of the proxy setting and tryied to
connect to it.

However if connection to the proxy fails (is this case) kopete simply does
anything returning unconnected.

The user should be notified of connection problems if proxy server is used.

Thanks,

Fabio Varesano
