I don't know where the animated smiley database is stored. The chat history is 
saved in $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kopete/logs though. If you are required to 
remove $HOME/.kde/share/apps/kopete then it would be advisable to make a 
backup of the log directory and your contactlist.xml file before doing so.
