Personally, I have myself on my contact lists because sometimes, when I log
into Oscar services, I wind up in some sort of unfortunate half-connected state
where it says I'm logged in, but I can't see anybody online. So I use it to
make sure I'm really connected.
Also, I tend to send messages to myself to test logging settings.
These are in addition to the userpic, away message, and startup irritation
reasons already stated.
