Ok, I have some level of confirmation of my above post, I did get
knetworkmanager to connect to it, albeit by luck and root terminal, and since
it thinks it's connected, kopete can now connect with msn. The issue is, only
this plugin and konqueror had this issue. Everything else (firefox,
thunderbird, apt-get) could work with the 'alternate configuration' of the
networks, done by 'Static configuration'.
