It's even easier to reproduce than waiting for the auto-away and restoring
status; just change your status to away for all accounts and restore to online
(I use the global shortcut CTRL-SHIFT-W) and the status message will be cleared.
I could see this implemented as as preference as I'm sure there are many people
that use status messages only for away messages, but it's becoming much more
common to use status messages for "I'm currently doing task X" and it doesn't
matter if they go away or come back online, they're still doing task X.
