It's difficult to tell you why kopete is crashing. I join the room mandriva
chat jabberfr org and after I send a message to the room, I wait 1 or 2 minutes
and get a dialog "Fatal error in the Jabber contact pool. Please restart Kopete
and submit a debug... blabla"
I can read these messages in my ~/.xsession-errors :
