I hope this is an appropriate place for this question, since there's no
user list that I saw.

I'm trying to use kopete 0.12.3 (Debian) as a jabber client. Every time
I try to send a message to jabber.org/echo, I get
Your message could not be delivered: "test", Reason: ""

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or how to diagnose it?

Here are some things I did that might have been problematic:

When I initially created the jabber account, using kopete, it required
that I put a domain name in the identity. The jabber documents seemed
to indicate I should not. So I set [EMAIL PROTECTED] as my jabber
id. That is not (AFAIK) a real email address.

I tried jabber.org/echo with and without an @jabber.org.

Initially I requested SSL, though I have since disabled that.

I have firewalls on my machine, though they allow traffic both ways for
established sessions.

Initially kopete showed me as offline, but I've been able to change that
by clicking on the little icon on the lower right.

The chat windows always show offline at the top. One shows
jabber.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Offline) - Kopete
and the other
jabber.org/echo/echo (Offline) - Kopete
Both of those look no good.

Thanks.
