I've tried several things and ... after removing my old contactlist.xml, it 
works correctly with mattr's suggestion. Apparently no regression or bizarre 
behaviour.

So here's the oneliner. Please test and commit if ok. I've an svn account but 
my ssh key it several thousands km away.
