I can confirm this bug: Kopete 0.50.0 doesn't work with my Amarok 1.4.8
It does not display anything in my status message (as it should do due to my
settings), and if I go to tools -> send media info when I am playing a song
with Amarok it says:
"None of the supported media players (Amarok, KsCD, JuK, Noatun, Kaffeine, or
Quod Libet) are playing anything."
