LATAR BELAKANG Terdistorsinya Islam tekstual, telah dijadikan sasaran empuk oleh kaum liberal-radikal untuk mengusung gagasan-gagasan unjustifiable. Hal ini merupakan goncangan peradaban yang berpotensi meluluhlantakkan Islam dalam kemampuannya merespons realitas zaman. Sementara di lain sisi, pengkarantinaan Islam oleh sekulerisme dalam perangkap private sphere of religious experience, alih-alih sebuah pembebasan, malah menggiring proses marjinalisasi umat Islam dan terbatas sebagai kaum yang hanya mampu memungut gagasan-gagasan orang lain tanpa kreativitas dan otentisitas. Kedua faktor ini menyebabkan memfosilnya pemikiran Islam dan telah melumpuhkan salah satu prinsip Islam yang utama, yakni Islam sebagai rahmatan lil `alamin. ICAS Jakarta, sebuah cabang ICAS London yang berdiri pada tahun 1999, tidak kehilangan harapan terhadap kemampuan internal khazanah ilmiah Islam dalam merespons perkembangan zaman tanpa harus tunduk pada sentimen kekinian dan temporalitas di atas universalitas teks suci agama. ICAS berpandangan bahwa keterbelakangan umat Islam dalam berbagai ranah peradaban kontemporer secara internal- merupakan konsekuensi alamiah dari terdistorsinya ajaran-ajaran Islam. Oleh karena itu, sebagaimana yang diutarakan dengan gamblang oleh Jamaluddin al-Afghani (w. 1897), umat Islam memerlukan kebangkitan ilmu-ilmu rasional seperti filsafat, kalam-filosofis, logika, metodologi ilmu atau sains, yang melalui lantaran ilmu-ilmu ini, diharapkan prinsip rahmatan lil'alamin dapat diaktualisasikan ke dalam kehidupan nyata. ICAS Jakarta dengan melandaskan diri pada pandangan saintis dan filsuf besar, Ibn Sina (w. 1037), yang amat mensyukuri karunia Allah SWT berupa teks-teks suci termasuk syari'at, sebagai sebuah pedoman universal bagi manusia. Merekomendasikan sarjana islam untuk juga menekuni ilmu tasawuf dan irfan (gnosis) sebagai bagian integral dari ilmu-ilmu Islam. Karena itu ICAS Jakarta memiliki keyakinan bahwa hanya melalui integrasi komitmen pada teks suci ilahi dan pendayagunaan nalar diskursif-intuitif secara prima, umat islam bisa mengkonstruksi diri mereka kembali dalam percaturan peradaban global dewasa ini. Atas dasar pemikiran di muka, ICAS Jakarta menghadirkan program Islamic Studies untuk level sarjana Strata 1 (S1). Melalui program ini ICAS Jakarta mempresentasikan ilmu-ilmu Islam yang terintegrasi, khazanah peradaban ilmiah sslam yang kaya, melalui kajian mendalam terhadap filsafat, metodologi ilmu, dan wacana kontemporer dunia sains dan agama. MISI 1. Mengembangkan kajian-kajian keislaman yang setia kepada teks suci agama (Qur'an dan Hadis) dan khazanah peradaban Islam yang berkomitmen kepada rasionalitas dan kemanusiaan universal. 2. Berpartisipasi dalam proyek pencerahan pemikiran keislaman, yang bisa memahami dan merespon Zeitgeist zaman secara bernas dan cerdas sehingga prinsip Islam sebagai rahmatan lil'alamin dapat dimanifestasikan. 3. Menyelenggarakan studi keislaman secara komprehensif, rasional, analitis-sintesis, metodologis, dan kreatif dengan visi global serta dalam suasana kebebasan berpikir dan moral Islami. 4. Berpartispasi menumbuhkan tradisi ilmiah umat Islam melalui studi keislaman yang terbuka, kritis, dan apresiatif terhadap perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan modern. 5. Menyiapkan peserta didik menjadi sosok sarjana yang berkarakter mulia, memiliki pemahaman Islam yang komprehensif dan mendalam, berwawasan luas dan global, berkesadaran ilmiah, berkemampuan menerapkan dan mengembangkan ilmu-ilmu Islam, dan bisa berkiprah dalam komunitas akademis internasional. MISSION Islamic College for Advanced Studies believes that contemporary world is meeting some more complicated challenges which demands deep concern, evaluated insight, reflective wisdom, and profound religious thought from the Islamic world. The college holds that philosophical and rational approaches in religious, especially Islamic studies would be beneficial in order to meet the above-mentioned purposes. Originally established in London (in 1999), ICAS grew and founded its branch in Jakarta. The ICAS-Jakarta develops education and research in scientific, rational, and philosophical approaches to the Islamic thought. In this regard, it provides high-level Islamic education by enrichment Islamic thought and civilization with contemporary thoughts, cultures, and civilizations. Dialogue is the key approach of the college. In addition to constructing a balanced dialogue between Islamic civilization and other civilizations in the world, the college seeks to establish dialogues between philosophy and religion, philosophy and science, religion and science, philosophy and mysticism, and mysticism and religious jurisprudence. PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES In order to meet those purposes and establish the said dialogues, the college presents several programs and activities as follows: 1. Education, especially presenting MA courses in corporation with Paramadina University. 2. Research and literature study. 3. Publishing. 4. Both Master's courses, each consisting of 44 credits (including 8 credits for seminar and thesis), are to be completed in a period of four semesters. The college provides scholarship for tuition fee only for students who fulfill the requirements of the scholarship scheme. The scholarship scheme is based on academic achievement, i.e., the Grade Point Average (GPA) of The Preliminary Semester in ICAS, and will revaluate for each semester ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Any applicant must meet entry requirements as listed below: 1. Possesses a Bachelor's degree in any field of study. 2. Completes the Applications Form 3. Fulfils the Examination requirement (the Exam comprises Academic Potential Test, English test and Interview) 4. Accepts the College's Code of Conduct The college admits at most 35 students every year in any MA course. Pre-Registration Requirement: 1. One Copy of Identity Card & Curriculum Viate 2. To fill the pre-registration form and follow the entrance test (Written Test:TPA, English & Interview) The requirement to study at Preliminary semester: The new student should pay the for course preliminary semester about Rp 1.500.000 (for tuition fee, student administration & library member). Interview: Friday-Saturday, February 20-21, 2009, at 10.00 am end (The schedule of the interview will be determined by the committee). 3. The announcement of the result of entrance test: February 28, 2009. 4. The Re-registration period of the student who has passed the Entrance Test will be held: on February 28March10 , 2009. 5.
