The Blight. I *enjoy* Vinge's writing style. I agree that much can be (and should be!) automated, but I want mechanisms in place to reduce the amount of code that must be trusted. Otherwise we have automation that is isomorphic to: "finger <location> | sh", and if *that* doesn't give you the willies, I want to go hide under my bed. Vinge isn't as opposed to live data as I am.
