ECMA standard Windows (APIW)......??

Application Programming Interface for Windows (APIW) (December 1995)
( http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/ECMA-234.HTM ):

I am uncertain of what Microsoft's origninal intent was in submitting APIW to
the ECMA. But it probably has do with some parents and or licensing agreements
they had with IBM. Another possiblity is that they were trying to gain leverage
over IBM's SOM (system object model) protocol. At the time sime SOM had a
considerable lead over COM and OLE. SOM had been accepted as government
standard.
