Err, you do know the difference between volts and amps, right? The input voltage of a power supply has nothing to do with how much power it consumes. You pay for the power, not the volts!

That being said, why would you even want to mess with an older
workstation?  I've got a Sun Enterprise 4000 system here that
cost over $70,000, has 4-GB of ram and eight SPARC processors.
I can go down to Fry's and buy a AMD powered desktop Pea Sea
for about $500 that will run rings around the Sun.

Now, if you're just interested on a hobby basis, that's different.
You don't have to justify the cost of a hobby!
