The man page tells me that would remap the key in all of X.  I'd be
hoping for a mapping that only applied to vi(m), but more importantly,
would work over the non-X ssh session that I'm currently typing in.

Not that I'm not grateful for the tip... didn't know about xmodmap...
probably come in handy for other things... (At home where I'm "allowed"
to use Linux.)
