DJA,
You are of course entitled to your opinion. I won't deny you that. However, I do disagree with your opinion that the author did not lose any money. Perhaps not a quantifiable amount due to this one single instance, but certainly the overall value of author whose work is published on the web, and subsequently stolen and posted all over without links or attribution will decrease the dollar value of works published in a similar way. Perhaps ultimately that will reduce the quality of the works we might see available for free (as in beer) on the web.

GMAFB!!!!

Anyone with a single braincell knows that once something is published on the
web it's going to be posted, if it's anything resembling readable, all over the
damned place. Anyone getting bent because the article is posted to an obscure
mailing list and actually suing for it is a complete ass. I'm certainly not
going to mind my p's and q's for the sake of not pissing off such people. If I
did, I'd never leave the house or talk to anyone.

This argument reminds me of the MPAA, RIAA, Big Bad Corporation, and nameless other large
entities that think that they are the only ones with any right to own anything, including
our thoughts. "By damn, we invested the time and money into it so that we can make
several more billions of dollars on top of the billions we already have, and screw you,
the 'Consumer' in the process! How dare you infringe upon Our Corporate given right to
steal every penny you work for for our own coffers! And by the way...All your thoughts
are owned by us!!"

Sure, lets police the Internet now, just like the government and some larger
corporations and conglomerates would like. Free information exchange!? Who the
hell needs it?!

Crap, I read a newspaper someone left laying on a table and the newly formed
Copyright Police arrested me for copyright infringement because I didn't pay
for it!
