Here is a recent story and interview with Bill Gates that confirms some of my thoughts:
( http://news.com.com/Microsoft+gets+outside+the+box+with+software/2100-1012_3-5616733.html?tag=nefd.lede ) "Microsoft gets outside the box with software Published: March 15, 2005, 4:00 AM PST By Ina Fried Staff Writer, CNET News.com TrackBack Print E-mail TalkBack A decade ago, Bill Gates and other executives at Microsoft decided that traditional packaged software was dead--all software would eventually be delivered via the Internet. Microsoft's thinking was premature, but not necessarily incorrect, Gates told CNET News.com last week." According to another source Microsoft .NET has been architected as a chargeback mechanism. As part of this Microsoft intends to charge for for component access. So when office becomes a subcription based service you will pay for leasing a component. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Randall Shimizu" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "San Diego Windows 2003 User Group" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: RE: [sdw2003] MS Office 12 beta: Stripped down versionofoffice........???
