I've been reading, this week, _Artificial Life_ by Steven Levy, and _The Caves of Steel_ by Isaac Asimov. The first is the Steven Levy style of journalistic outlining of people working on alife. The other is a novel in Asimov's Robot series. My thoughts have been on this kind of thing, and I've imagined growing "life", or at least complicated interlocking sets of algorithms and input channels that give a life-like appearance, and then simply loading the software life-likes into a hardware robot. It occurred to me a few minutes ago that live CDs are essentially a primitive version of this. -todd -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-list
