I am trying to upgrade my Fedora Core 1 (FC1) box to FC3 with no luck.
The motherboard is a Tyan K7 Thunder (2462) with the latest BIOS. It has an onboard Adaptec 7899 SCSI controller. The SCSI controller seems to be the problem.

The box just hangs after loading the aic7xxx module. Googling has dug up few solutions to a problem which seems to have started with FC2.

One suggestion is to install the i2o_proc.ko module via the shell during the install process. I have extracted the module file from the kernel source, and can manage to copy it to the system. However, neither insmod nor modprobe (both linked to a file called loader) appear to actually load the module.

I think my problem is that I don't know where to put the module. The instructions for doing this are here:

http://redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2004-May/msg03906.html

There must be more to it than this. If I boot with "linux noprobe", I am asked for a (hard)disk driver. The list offered is from the /modules/modules.cgz file. Insmod (nee modprobe) is probably a cut down version of the familiar utility.

Other than that, I know nothing. Any suggestions?
