If she's reading already, I'd set up a basic word processing program
so she can see what the different keys do. It's frustrating to be in a
game or some other application where half the keys you press, nothing
happens.

ASDF keys are bland. The ones that are shaped differently or have odd
marks and symbols on them, look special, almost exotic. Not to mention
the fact that you can make weird things happen by pressing more than
one key at once. Hence my skepticism about your ability to keep her in
X. *g*

I was given a Franklin Speller once when I was little. I liked coming
up with combinations and sequences of keys (punctuation, mostly) that
would break it and make strange characters start scrolling up the
screen. I'd have to take the battery out to start it over again.

You could network it to your own computer and do ytalk. That would be
fun because there's no "taking turns" while you wait for the other
person to finish typing. I think she'd get a kick out of seeing a
message from you to her show up on the screen as you're typing it.
