Fedoras are free.
Fedora Core 2 is the first to come with the 2.6 kernel by default, but
you put 2.6 on FC1 as well.

Fedora Core 2 is now in "Legacy" status, which means that it will no
longer receive updates (security, fixes, etc.). FC3 is now the current
version, with FC4's final release pending (now in the Test 3 phase).
