Can anyone recommend a *good* free antivirus software for Windows?

unfortunately, the person need windows 2000, linux is just not an option right
now. we tried, but there are too many hurdles to overcome for her.
a decent personal windows based firewall would be nice too, if you have any
suggestions.

You might try clamwin Antivirus. It is the windows port for clamav.

AVG and F-Prot are also good. zonealarm is a good firewall, but you have
to pay for the version that also does AV. I think it's $30 or so.
