Can anyone recommend a *good* free antivirus software for Windows? *sigh* unfortunately, the person need windows 2000, linux is just not an option right now. we tried, but there are too many hurdles to overcome for her. a decent personal windows based firewall would be nice too, if you have any suggestions.

You might try clamwin Antivirus. It is the windows port for clamav. www.clamwin.com <http://www.clamwin.com/> AVG and F-Prot are also good. zonealarm is a good firewall, but you have to pay for the version that also does AV. I think it's $30 or so.
