Honestly, unless MythTV's progression requires you to drag along a number of supporting software packages with it, it shouldn't really matter.

As Josh pointed out, if you used a base of CentOS (say, 4.1), you could use the ATrpms site's packages for MythTV (or was it dependancies) suitable for RHEL4. Additionally, they seem to support "old" distributions, or at least not drop distro releases when the next one comes out.

Personally, I'd rather not upgrade my (planned) MythTV box at all if I didn't have to.
