2T is the maximum under 2.4 and early 2.5. According to:

the max is 16T under 2.6. But even that still seems rather small. That
is only 3 doublings or 5 years if Moores law applied to disks (which it
doesn't but what the heck). I guess 5 years isn't too bad but it seems
like it should just be fixed once and be done with it sort of like ipv6.
I wonder if we'll ever see a day when ipv6 address space is in danger of
running out.
