I had some email corruption, apparently, and have wound up with many,

Any suggestions on how to automate the removal of the duplicates?

Need to know what email program(s) you are using, and how the messages
are stored. (mbox format, maildir format, other).

Doesn't Mozilla use mbox? Or a variant thereof?

I don't know about the format, but I do know that it uses two files for each
bottom-level mail folder. One is a summary file and the other is all the
messages. Sometimes if you have duplicate messages, you can delete the summary
file and Mozilla will rebuild it from the message file. This will only work if
the message file doesn't actually contain duplicate messages.

Inbox.msf is the summary file for you Inbox, and Inbox is the message file.
