It's under Config -> Encode -> Encoder -> Encoder. It will create a file format appropriate to the encoder you select. As you select different encoders, the "encode file extension" will change to tell you what format you'll generate. The 'lame' encoder will create mp3s. > what is the right way to copy them to the ipod? I'm sure there's more than one right way, but I would guess you'd want to use a program to do the transferring. Something such as gtkpod.
