I'm guessing you're refering to the internal card modems.   I went with
an external Linksys cablemodem myself.  Works fine, and found it used on
craigslist for 20 bucks. :)  Plus it matches my alchemized wrt-54GS
running sveasoft firmware.   I'm not sure about internal modem cards.
I'd stick to the external box myself.   Good to see that you're
converting her to linux.   We did this to my mom years ago, told her it
was the newest version of windows. :)
