My recent experience with Maxtor drives in Maxtor boxes can be
summarized as follows:  the warranty on a drive in a box is two years
less than the warranty on a bare drive (3 yrs vs. 5 yrs at the time). 
The warranty on a drive in a box is voided if you open the box to see
what went wrong.  (0 yrs vs. 5 yrs)
