Somewhere around $500 just for materials and assembly using passive B&W
LCD. That's doesn't include paying the engineers to design it, the
molds for injection plastics, or any other design expenses. OLED or
E-Ink doubles or triples the price.
The other issue with everything except E-Ink in the key is that it must
be continuously powered. That's quite a lot of power when multiplied by
100 keys. E-Ink, on the other hand, holds its image until actively
changed. That's part of the reason it is so slow.
Sadly, E-Ink seems to be quite the vaporware. I actually tried to get a
devlopment kit or development prototype, but they don't really seem to
exist.
