Some days it's good to be a geek ...

Got a new Verizon LG 8100 phone. It has built-in Bluetooth and a dial-up networking profile.

Spent several hours with tech support to talk to somebody who had something even close to a clue. Finally got to data tech support.

Connected my Bluetooth dongle for my Windows XP machine, did the Internet connection wizard dance, fired up a download for Thunderbird, and got about 30 Kilobytes per second or about 300 kilobits per second.

The phone goes on and off as the internet connection is required.

Now to get it working with OS X. Given the standard DUN COM port association, I suspect it should work with Linux, too.
