Linus has plainly stated that he uses the SCM /he/ prefers, and he doesn't much give a rat's ass as to what /others/ prefer he uses. That seems pretty "End of discussion"-ish to me. Why doesn't anyone else get it?

If Linus doesn't want to get smacked around, he should keep his head down, his mouth shut, and let his code do the talking. If that's all he did, no one would even remotely care about his decisions.

However, Linus *likes* using his position as an open source bully pulpit; he just doesn't like the fallout when he makes an unpopular decision.

If he doesn't want his managerial actions scrutinized, then he should act more like the Apache, Perl, Python, FreeBSD, X.org, etc. developers. More code; less talk.
