I would not expect those disks to be region encoded since they are not
from a legit source in the first place. Have you gone to a store in
China, bought an officially released disk intended for the Chinese
market and tried to play it in a US bought DVD player? Your Linux box
doesn't count as it probably has DeCSS loaded which can decrypt the
region encoding.
